Over training in and out of the gym!

Whether you are at the gym or dealing with a stressful busy day, there is a danger of over training.
Over-training is going beyond the natural physical limitations of ones body by training too much. Over training can result in serious damage to the body including a physical and mental collapse. Many injuries are attributed to over training.
Over training is common amoung people who want to see quick results in a short time.

Signs of over training are:
Fatique
Reduced concentration
Apathy
Insomnia
Irritability
Depression
Decreased performance
Delayed recovery from training
Intolerance to training
Elevated morning resting pulse rate
Increase to injuries
Chronic muscle soreness
Weight loss
Frequent minor infections
Appetite Loss

Remember sometimes less is better!

When I started to think about over training in the gym, the parallels to stress in everything we do came to light. Not only in our work- out routines can we over do it, but at work and home. Trying to get many things done in one day, pushing dead lines, balancing work and life together, can lead to over training. We are always in training within life situations. It can add up to doing too much and result in finding ourselves 'not handling it well'.

To avoid over training in all areas of your life:
Ensure adequate rest
Proper program design, proper planning
Good nutrition
Take time to "do nothing"
Celebrate the large and small accomplishments
Organize the 'important' to 'can wait' and not push your limits in one day
Smile
Stop and recognize signs your mind and body may be giving you.

The time to relax is when you don't have time for it. ~Attributed to both Jim Goodwin and Sydney J. Harris
